Youth Congress stages protest over Delhi riots


New Delhi, Mar 2 (IANS): The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) activists staged protest here at Shastri Bhawan on Monday against the Centre over Delhi violence and demanded resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

They carried placards in their hands that read, "San changa nahi si' (everything is not fine), jab Delhi jal rahi thi, Amit Shah khamosh kyu the'(when Delhi was burning why was Amit Shah silent). The activists also brought the effigy of Shah.

Following the protest, the Delhi Police made adequate arrangements and stopped them at the Shastri Bhawan.

Police also deployed water canon to stop the youth activists from advancing towards the Parliament.

When the IYC protesters jumped the barricade and tried to move towards the Parliament, the police detained them.

So far, at least 45 people have died and more than 263 were injured in the deadliest violence in north-east district of the Capital.

Around 80 odd houses, more than 100 shops, five schools, petrol pumps gutted have been tabulated so far.

The violence started on February 23 when clashes between pro- and anti-CAA protesters turned violent.
