Mangaluru, Mar 9: Woman is a symbol of strength. She is the finest and beautiful creation of God. One without which no creation is possible. One who gives birth and nourishes. St Aloysius College, Harihar celebrated Women’s Day on March 7 with great enthusiasm. Students along with the faculty and the management participated actively.

The dignitaries for the day were Suma M V, the chief guest, Fr Eric Mathias SJ, Superior & Principal of Degree College, Baptist Sunny Gudinho, principal PU College, Princy Flavia Pinto, vice-principal and Al Jaseena Hameed, co-ordinator of the programme.

The dignitaries were followed in by the NCC cadets and moved ahead to the dais. The formal programme began with a prayer song. Sangeetha of II PU Arts spoke about women empowerment stating that empowering women is a great responsibility that is necessary for gender equality. The chief guest, spoke about the importance of Women’s Day and gave a brief history about how Women’s Day was brought into. She also added on how the film industry biases between the colour of the woman and how it assists businesses to use the insecurity thus created to get their products sold. She urged to condemn such practices in our society and appealed to the male counterparts to appreciate the internal beauty that a woman possesses than the external one.

This was followed by an informal programme wherein the students depicted the importance of a woman in a man’s life through a skit and a dance based on Ssthree Shakthi and freedom of woman.

The president of the function, Fr Eric Mathias S J spoke about the importance of the day and soon after about the equal treatment which is given to the lady staff and students in the college.

The programme instilled in everyone a sense of respect and admiration toward women and was brought to an end on a very positive note.
