Rebel MP Cong MLAs get security in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Mar 11 (IANS): Security provided to all the 19 rebel Madhya Pradesh Congress legislators (MLAs) staying at a resort on the city's northern outskirts, a senior police official said on Wednesday.

"We have provided security to the MLAs staying at the resort in response to their joint letter to the Karnataka director-general of police (DGP) on Tuesday," Karnataka Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sharat Chandra told IANS.

Additional police personnel have been deployed in and around the resort (Prestige Golfshire) since Tuesday to regulate the movement of the people and check vehicles visiting the place.

"All the MLAs are staying put at the resort since they moved in on Monday night. They did not go out so far. Escort will provided if they are going out as sought," Chandra added.

In the joint letter to state DGP Praveen Sood, the rebels stated that they had come to Karnataka voluntarily on some important work and require protection and escort from local police for their safe movement and safe stay in and around Bangalore.

The lawmakers who signed the letter are: Mahendra Singh Sisodia, Ranveer Jatav, Prabhu Narayan Chouhan, Raja Vardhan Singh, O.R.S. Bhadori, Kamlesh Jatav, Munnalal Goyal, Jasvant Jatav, Raghuraj, Harnam Singh, Suresh, Govindraj, Jaipal Singh, Imrathi Devi, Tulasi Silavat, Govind Singh Rajput, Pradyuman Singh Tomar and Prabhuram Chowdhary.

The rebels have also resigned from their assembly segments in the northern state and sent the resignation letters in Hindi to their assembly speaker through one of their senior leaders on Tuesday.

The rebels include six ministers, who were sacked by beleaguered Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Tuesday for revolting against him and attempting to destablise 15-month Congress government.

Party source said the rebels owe their allegiance to a miffed Jyotiraditya Scindia who resigned from the Congress on Tuesday after 18 years of association with the grand old party.
