Mangalore: Nov 25 (DHNS) Minister for Urban Development, Law and Parliamentary Affairs S Suresh Kumar said at least 10 multi-storeyed parking complexes will be developed in the City limits in the days to come.

Addressing a press conference after inspecting various developmental works in the City Corporation limits on Wednesday, he said parking has proved a serious problem in Mangalore since the space meant of parking has been misused by the commercial complexes.

“About 30 per cent of space on the roads is being used for vehicle parking since the commercial complexes have not allotted necessary parking lots. One multi-level parking complex has already been approved for Hampankatta,” he said.

Action against officials

The minister said he would be getting a list of violators from the Deputy Commissioner soon, as per which action would be taken against the officials concerned.

“Clear instructions had been given to the officials an year ago regarding the building rules; yet they have been violated again,” he noted.

Suresh Kumar hinted that fines would be collected from the owners of the commercial complexes who have violated the regulations, which would in turn be used for developing new multi-level parking complexes.

High-level meeting

The minister said a top-level meeting would be held in Bangalore on November 30 or December 1 where solutions would be drawn to the problems related to the self assessment system (SAS) of taxation, transfer of development rights (TDR) and the woes of those having less than 5 cents land under the new master plan.
He said the common cadre and recruitment (C&R) rules are before the Finance Department for approval, which will be out soon.

Once the C&R rules are clear, transfer of staff from one city corporation to another will be made possible, he said.

JNNURM for M’lore?

Suresh Kumar said he had discussed with the Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy with an urged to include Mangalore in the Jawharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

“Presently, only Bangalore and Mysore have come under the scheme. Mangalore was excluded due to the rules regarding the population. Jaipal Reddy is expected to announce the names of more cities to be included in the scheme during the first anniversary of the JNNURM to be held in New Delhi on December 3. We hope that Mangalore will get a place,” he said.

Urban devt policy

The government has published the draft of the first ever Urban Development Policy of the State ten days ago which is available on www.urbanaffairs.in. A state-level workshop is being held at Mysore on December 6 where the heads and officials of the different City Corporations and City Municipal Councils will take part, he informed.
The final draft of the policy will be tabled before the State Cabinet by January 15, he added.

Civic workers

Answering a query, the minister said though there are 17,500 paura karmikas in the State working on a daily-wage basis, the ones in Mangalore do not come under them.

“Mangalore’s is a special case. A cabinet sub-committee led by PWD Minister C M Udasi is looking into the issue. An action will be taken on regularising their service on the basis of the committee’s recommendations,” he informed.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwara Hegade Kageri, District-in-Charge Minister J Krishna Palemar, Mayor M Shanker Bhat and others were present on the occasion.

The next day Mr. Suresh Kumar visited Mangalore at least some cars parked in no parking area near Mahendra Arcade are towed by the traffic police. Hope this is not just a symbolic gesture. Keep up the good job. We Mangalorians do not hesitate to block the city traffic stopping in front of a shop in already narrow street just to buy a banana sitting inside cars with hands stretched out. First job on priority must be to make good footpaths, fit for walking and to encourage car owners to use trolleys so that they can park their car in one of the 10 multistoried parking to be build later and shop happily.

what Mr. Charles has said is absolutely right. Roads are so pathetic in the city. The best way of making politicians aware of this is to lock them in a ordinary car and take them through the city roads plus in mangalore udupi road. The road from B.C.Road to Surathkal is so miserable. I think it will be ready for the people of next generation. Just imagine the fate of the commuters who travel on this road and the vehicle plying on this road. constructing of parking area is a good concept. Let these people plan and do it accordingly. I wish them all the best....

If Gujarat is developed it is not because of Modi Govt. but because of Guajarati’s. This community has entrepreneur who have spread all over India. Look at Mangalore it self. They are business community. This they have proved even in USA and UK. It is this money transferred to India has been used for development. What BJP in Karnataka is nothing but corrupt. Only promises and no action. Nobody knows 750 cores collected for flood victims in North Karnataka where it has gone and how it is utilized. Can anybody answer it.

Mr. Sujith Nayak What tolerance you are talking about Congress is corrupt we all agree, what about your BJP it is one step a head of congress in corruption. What ever congress has looted in 60 years BJP has looted in just one year. Now BJP has a better track record in corruption compare to congress. Anytime congress is much better than BJP.

Before developing multi-storeyed parking complexes, the minister should first think of widening the already conjested roads, streamline the ever existing traffic jams, etc

We will get a multi-storeyed car park building at the old bus stand which can accommodate more than 20,000 car parking area and also a commercial shopping complex on the Basement & Ground floor. Hope the project takes off earlier. In the residential area the owners as well as the visitors park their cars on the curve-road pockets which create night-mare to the morning office going traffic. Bunder, Hoyge Bazar, Pandeshwar, Jeppu, Kankanady, Kadri Road, Lady Hill, Kottara & Alke are the few potential spots inside the city. Long Chassied Buses & Lorries should not be allowed inside the city between 8:00am & 8:00pm.

Mr.Nagesh you said BJP means development, then why have you meintioned only Gujrat and Karnataka, why not Uttar Pradesh, Madya Pradesh, Maharastra, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chatisgarh, Goa, Bihar and Rajastan have not been improved. You may say now that in those states BJP didnt rule for long but it is the same case with Karnataka too BJP has been only for a year and a half. I dont say Congress has done too much for the nation, but I do expect BJP to do more for the nation because the backbone of BJP is RSS and RSS always says that they are not worried about them or their families but about the nation. Again I dont say Congress is better than BJP or vice versa, I can only say never trust a politician, a police officer, a lawyer and a religious head (like catholic priest, a poojary, a mukri, etc.) they are there with you only when you are monitarily strong or else they dont even come close to you.

There is no point in collecting fines from owners who have violated the Parking Regulations. Such Buildings where parking has been converted to commercial purposes should be rid of Illegal occupations and converted to Parking areas and where not possible such occupations should be shut down. Or else what is the need to have laws in our country. The Minister says “Clear instructions had been given to the officials an year ago regarding the building rules yet they have been violated again,” What action you intend to take against these officials dear Minister?

It is really good news that, such 10 multi-storyed Parking complex is going develop at mangalore, as mangalore is going to develop day by day, and also due to lack of traffic and public and shortage of parking in the city, you have taken lovely step to build such parking complex, but this Parking Complex should be build it near TownHall/Nehru Maidan or Bander which is comfortable and center to for all public. The above said is good locations which I mentioned to build parking complex at mangalore. Also I would like to get more news about the city development at mangalore. Also I have one more suggesst, at Hampankatta the road which is belongs to Market Road, this is business heart of the Mangalore commercial hub at mangalore, we have to give good name for this market road as commercial look, becuase this is business area and very famous Market Road at mangalore.
