Udupi: ‘JIM Fans’ Presents ‘Yesterday once More’, for Mission Hospital

Udupi, Nov 28: ‘JIM Fans, South India’, presented a programme, ‘Yesterday Once More’, under the caption, ‘Celebration for Charity’, at the Kediyoor Hotel ground here on the evening of Friday November 27. The initiative, specially organized for charity, was aimed at pooling funds for the upgradation and improvement of facilities at Mission Hospital (CSI Lombard Memorial Hospital) here.
The programme started sharp at 7.30 pm, as scheduled. The audiences were present in full strength, as over 1,000 people gathered to enjoy the programme and be a part of the charity show.
Shammi Shiri welcomed the garthering, after which, Max Karkada, popularly known as ‘Jim Reeves of South India’, took over the stage.
After Amabel came up with the song, ‘Knock Three Times’, the show proceeded full steam ahead, with the rendering of rare oldies of Gentleman Jim, Nat King Cole, Connie Francis, Pat Boone, George Baker Selection, Tom Jones, Shakin, Tony Christie, Dawn, Carpenters, Willie Nelson, etc. The songs were rendered by Max Karkada, Love Joy, Amabel and Raksha Jathanna.
The song, ‘I Saw her standing there,’ sung by Love Joy, a romantic song, ‘Killing Me Softly’, by Roberta Flack and Naughty, rendered by Amabel, and ‘Stupid Cupid’ by Connie Francis, which were beautifully rendered, were the highlights of the performance and succeeded in touching the hearts of the listeners.
‘But You Love Me Daddy’ and “Welcome to My World’ from His Kinds, Anna Marie and Rosa Rio, were sung by Max Karkada with the able assistance of the instrumentalists.
‘Lipstick on Your Collar’ by Connie Francis and ‘Top of the World’ by Carpenters, were sung by Raksha.
In memory of Michael Jackson (MJ), the King of Pop, his ever popular song, ‘Heal the World’ meant for the world peace, was sung, with good support from the children present.
Jerome Coelho on bass guitar, Oscar Weltha on the keyboards, Denzil Karkada on violin, Arun Shiri on both saxophone and violin, Manoj Lazrus on violin, Sunil Kumar on violin, Melwyn Fernandes on drums, Theo Alwaris from Goa, and Nigel from Calicut on trumpets and saxophone respectively, Gladson Merwin on acoustic guitar, Raj Gopal on lead guitar, Shailish and Angelina on harmony, and Roshan in jingle instruments, provided skillful and able support to the singers.
Max Karkarda thanked all the sponsors for their wonderful support.
Shammi Shiri conducted spot games for the kids and the audiences. Prakash Simon, proprietor of Simon Associates, with a few others, played the instrumental music.
The entire programme was based on the originality of the old fifties, sixties, and seventies.
Entrepreneur, Promad Madhwaraj, while extending his wishes to the concerned, thanked the troupe for their wonderful work towards charity. He also wished the organizers and performers, a bright future. A wonderful dinner was arranged by Hotel Kediyoor Pvt Ltd, on the occasion.
Bhuvanendra Kediyoor, proprietor of Hotel Kediyoor, in his speech, said that Mission Hospital in the city is one of the best hospitals from the yester years. The hospital has carved out a niche for itself because of the service and quality of hospitality rendered to the sick, he noted. “The hospital, of late, unfortunately, is on a downhill ride,” he noted and called upon the people from all the walks of life to come forward and support the cause of restoring to the hospital its past glory.
Mementoes were handed over to the concerned, on the occasion. At the fag end, the numbers presented by Max and his group, enticed the audience to put to test their dancing skills and gyrate a little on the dance floor. The audience returned contented for having been a part of a wonderful show and helping a charitable cause.
