Bengaluru, Apr 3: Deputy chief minister (DCM) of Karnataka, Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, visited the residence of Krishnaveni, an Asha scheme worker, who was hounded and assaulted by misinformed people when she had visited Ashwath Nagara here to collect health condition details of residents as part of the coronavirus awareness programme. The minister instilled confidence and courage in her, duly telling her that the government is with her at this trying time.

Speaking to the media later, he condemned the attack on Asha workers by the people. "Krishnaveni and six other Asha workers went to Sadiq Layout to collect health information when people were encouraged to attack the workers through an announcement made through the loudspeaker of a local mosque. Krishnaveni and others were physically attacked and mentally tortured. I understand that the police did not register a complaint when the workers approach them. We will investigate this and take action against the guilty," he explained.

In the meanwhile, people have reacted to the attack on Asha worker angrily through social websites. Education minister, Suresh Kumar too has condemned the attack, saying that incidents like these insult the workers involved with pubic service and asked people to treat such people with respect.

Former chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, has requested people who took part in the religious convention at Nizamuddin, Delhi, to voluntarily offer themselves for medical examination. In a tweet, he said that no religion is bigger than one's life. He condemned the attack on the staff who visited colonies to collect health data, duly adding that health and constitution are paramount. He asked the government to act against the trouble mongers.
