Kasargod: Assistant professor invents low cost automatic ventilator

Kasargod, Apr 4: Assistant professor in physics department of the government college here, Dr A V Pradeep, has invented low cost automatic ventilator equipment that will help patients with artificial breathing.

The artificial manual breathing unit (AMBU) has been equipped with motor and transformed into automatic ventilator.

In normal course, the AMBU unit used in ambulance or other centres is operated with hands. Padeep has equipped it with motor as a result of which it works automatically. The cost is about Rs 3,000. It can be used when bacteria proliferate beyond control. Coronavirus infection mostly hurts the lungs. Asthma patients too can make use of this equipment.

Dr Pradeep said that he is prepared to make automatic ventilators and provide them to the needy after the end of the lockdown period.

Dr Pradeep had worked as researcher in Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru. He has invented several equipments. He is a native of Payyannur in Kannur district.
