Mangaluru, Apr 13: Dakshina Kannada district committee of SDPI has urged the concerned to bring out the truth behind an incident in which two SDPI workers were arrested from Badriya Nagar near Mallur allegedly for obstructing ASHA worker from discharging her duties.

The committee said that the Anganwadi worker in question was visiting houses and obtaining information about the women who had recently delivered and also their babies. "During their visit to the house of Ashraf from Mallur, she demanded Adhar and ration card at which the family members got suspicious and contacted SDPI worker, Ismail, who is their relative," the committee said.

Ismail reached the spot and wanted to know why an Aadhar and a ration card were being sought. ASHA worker, Vasanthi, then contacted her superior. In the meantime, Ismail contacted Indira, head of the local primary health centre, and summoned her to the spot and convinced her about what had happened. Vasanthi told Indira that no one had talked to her derogatorily. Later, the police registered the case of restraining ASHA worker and threatening her, which is condemnable, the committee stated.

SDPI Dakshina Kannada district president, Athaulla Jokatte, in a release, said that the discussions at the spot had become viral in social sites. He said that giving political colour to an incident in which the worker herself had confirmed that she was not harassed, cannot be condoned. He has urged the police department to investigate the entire incident properly and bring out the truth.
