Mangaluru, Apr 15: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC) Sindhu B Rupesh, has been undertaking abundant precautions against communicating coronavirus infection if any to others. Even though only those who have symptoms of the disease or suspected to have the infection have to stay away from their close ones, she has self-quarantined herself and has been staying away from her baby since the last 23 days.

The DC has withdrawn from taking care of her two-year-old baby from the day the first coronavirus infection was detected in the district. In addition to handling the responsibility of running the district administration, she was a caring, doting mother for her child but now her parents who live with her take care of the child. She speaks to the child from a distance but the child is unhappy at the fact that the mother is not coming nearer.

Sindhu said that being the deputy commissioner, she often needs to visit hospitals and other places and conduct meetings. Without being aware, there is a risk of getting infected in spite of taking precautions, she said. Therefore, she has maintained distance. As lockdown has been extended, she sent the baby to her husband who lives in Bengaluru, on Saturday.

Additional deputy commissioner of the district M J Roopa, too has not been mingling with her two children aged less than five because of fear of infection. As a measure of precaution, she has sent them to her parental home at Mysuru.
