Mangaluru: Illegal sand mining - Accused escapes from police

Mangaluru, Apr 17: Police personnel of Ullal station had raided a spot at Talapady after getting reliable information that a person was engaged in illegal sand mining there, on Wednesday. When he was being led to the police station, he gave the police a slip, it is learnt.

The police had gathered information that in spite of lockdown, illegal sand mining was on at Talapady. Early on Wednesday they raided the sand den and took the accused along with a truck into their possession. When the accused was being brought by vehicle to the police station, he escaped by falsely acting like washing his face, it is gathered.
