Bantwal: Fear grips among people as 67-year-old woman tests corona-positive

Bantwal, Apr 21: The people in Bantwal area are living in fear after a 67 year old woman tested positive for the virus. The woman had contracted the virus from her neighbour who yielded to the virus on April 19, after which nine people including all the family members and neighbours of the woman are kept in quarantine.

The woman's husband, daughter, granddaughter, a relative and her daughter and four people in the neighbourhood are kept under quarantine.

Her son, who had accompanied her to the hospital was kept in quarantine on Sunday itself. The woman seemed to be suffering from asthma was admitted to Wenlock Covid hospital on Saturday, April 18. She passed away the following day, and only after her death it was learnt that she had contracted the virus. Previously, she was taken to Bantwal government hospital and later shifted to Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru by an ambulance.

The health department is engaged in tracing the travel history of the woman who died and also of the woman who was declared corona positive.

Bantwal market completely closed

As a measure of alert, the authorities have sealed 100 meters area around the two houses of the women who tested positive as containment area on Sunday. All the roads that connect Bantwal market were closed. 180 houses were identified as containment zone. The seal down enforced on Monday would be for straight 28 days. However, as another case was found on Tuesday, it may be extended by another day, the tahsildar said. As the roads leading to markets were completely closed down, Bantwal municipal council control room has been working for 24 hours to meet the needs of the residents of the containment zone.
