Sarvajanika Sri Ganeshotsava Samiti, Aasare Charitable Trust honor ASHA health workers of Udupi

Udupi, Apr 22: Sarvajanika Sri Ganeshotsava Samiti Kadiyali and Aasare Charitable Trust (R) jointly distributed honorary amount of Rs 2,000 to the 169 ASHA health workers of Udupi constituency.

G Jagadeesh district commissioner, Udupi distributed the cheques to ASHA health workers who are working for the control of COVID-19. Speaking on the occasion he said, "We used to face the problem of feeding the daily wage workers when the lockdown began. But due to the generous help offered by the people of Udupi, serving food to all these daily wage workers was possible. This is generosity is helping to feed the workers and ensuring that no one is hungry. Providing food to the people along with COVID-19 duties would have been a great task for the administration. Fight against this virus is a great fight, it never stops. The residents of Udupi are honestly following the guidelines by the district administration. The officers who are working to control the pandemic are looked on in a negative light in the neighbouring districts. But for the safety of the public of Udupi, we are okay with having this image. We are indulged in a daily quarrel with the public of neighbouring districts over the border closure. ASHA workers are doing a great job. To extend gratitude for their service, this amount is being given. The fight against the virus will keep continuing. Let us maintain social distance, follow the guidelines given by the state government in the following
days," he said.



"In the past 22 days, we have not received any positive cases. This should continue for the next six days then with the in another 28 days the district would be shifted under the green zone and we would be allowed some relaxations in the lockdown. Appearing in the green zone is an achievement," the DC added.

Over 100 food kits were handed over to the handicap association members by the committee on the occasion. Aasare Charitable Trust is providing food to the destitute since the day lockdown was enforced. During these days, food is provided to around 81,300 people. Every day 4,000 people are served food by the committee. Inspired by their work, P Vishnuvardhan Police Superintendent, Udupi personally contributed sweets with food to the underprivileged.

Kunjattaya Srinivas and PK Sharma were the donors for the food for the day. Speaking on the occasion Raghupathi Bhat MLA, Udupi constituency said, "With the help of donors we have already distributed food kits worth Rs 10 lac. ASHA workers are doing a great job in controlling the spread of the pandemic. This achievement has been possible because of teamwork. Aasare Charitable Trust was created in 2016 we had adopted 25 orphan children. We are providing education to all of them. All these children will also be provided with food kits. The people of Udupi have been following social distancing earnestly."
