Puttur, Apr 22: Muhammed Junaid PK, residing at Indira Nagar in Narimogaru village in the taluk, through a petition has urged Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police to dismiss a case filed against him. Junaid has demanded justice in the matter and alleged that the case filed against him is fake. Junaid, who runs an ambulance service free of cost for the people, reportedly was booked on a false case and had his ambulance seized by the police.

"On the night of April 12, I received a call from a local social activist Rashid Amchinadka, who told me about a person from Nettanige Mudnur village in the taluk who is mentally ill and who was currently in the house of a relative at Mysuru. Rashid was concerned that the young man may create trouble for his relative. It was decided to bring him here and admit him into a hospital either at Puttur or Mangaluru. As per the suggestion of the doctor, the family had visited Sampya station and sought permission by applying for the said travel. The sub-inspector told us that there is no necessity for any permission as it is a medical emergency. He asked the family to bring the youth by ambulance and also provided his phone number," he stated.

"The family contacted our ambulance. Seven of us including the driver Saleemuddin Illyas, me, and four people from the man's family, were moving to Mysuru on the night of April 12 when policemen stopped us at Kushalnagar check post, denied permission, obtained ambulance records, and asked us to return to Puttur. We returned to Puttur, confirmed to the police station what had happened and reached our homes," he added.

Further, he affirmed that on the evening of April 17, Puttur station police asked him to bring the ambulance to the station, and seized the vehicle. He claims that they also registered a false case against him.

Junaid says that because of the seizure of the ambulance meant for public service, the services have been hit. He has sought a return of the vehicle, cancellation of the false case registered against him, and to do him justice.
