Mangaluru, Apr 22: A person, who was at Coimbatore, was sick for many days. On Tuesday night, April 21 he was brought here by an air ambulance.

The air ambulance reached the international airport here on Tuesday at 7.43 pm. After the patient and his wife disembarked from the ambulance, the air ambulance took off on its return journey at 8.05 pm.

The patient was then taken to A J Hospital in the city by another ambulance. The arrangement was made after the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada and district collector of Coimbatore discussed the matter.

The patient who was shifted in this manner was Durgaprasad Hegde (65), residing near Mangaladevi in the city. In the past, he was working as the managing director of a tea estate in Coimbatore. Unfortunately, he has been bedridden since a while now.

Because of coronavirus scare all over India, Hegde was subjected to relevant tests, in which he tested negative. Still, as a precautionary measure, he was kept in isolation ward upon his arrival at the hospital here. On Wednesday, samples of his throat swab were sent to Wenlock Hospital for testing. Once the result is obtained, his treatment will begin, sources said.
