Mumbai, Apr 22: In light of the rise in number of coronavirus cases in the city, Maharashtra health minister, Rajesh Tope said that the central committee has recommended increasing the quarantine facility capacity in Mumbai from 1,200 beds to 2,000 beds.

In order to assess the state's preparedness to combat the coronavirus outbreak, an inter-ministerial central team (IMCT) had arrived in Mumbai for a two-day visit.

The health minister said, "The central committee had also asked us to provide minimum oxygen supply to patients undergoing treatment, as it will help ease their breathing distress if any."

Adhering to the directives given by the committee, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation was asked to increase the number of beds and have more testing kits all across Mumbai. The minister said that if need arises, tents can be put up in open spaces.

On Wednesday, April 22, the IMCT team visited the quarantine facilities and transit camps at Dharavi to assess the corrective measures adopted by the government.
