Bengaluru, May 6: About 10,823 persons who will be brought back to India from various countries will be subjected to quarantine in Bengaluru city, Bengaluru rural, and Mangaluru city. They will be sent to their homes in different districts only if they test negative for coronavirus infection, the health department has clarified.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, May 5, the commissioner in the department Pankaj Kumar Pandey said that in the first phase, 6,100 persons will be arriving. They will be quarantined in Bengaluru and Mangaluru, he added.

"People who go to quarantine from the airport have to download Aarogya Setu app in their mobile phones. Those proceeding to home quarantine have to download corona watch app. During the day, they have to upload one photo every hour through the app," he said. These instructions will be given to the immigrants.

Those coming from abroad will be divided into three categories. All of them will be checked at the airport or port. Those with symptoms of infection (A category) will be immediately sent to designated corona hospital and subjected to infection test.

The senior citizens and those with a history of age-related or chronic diseases (B category) even though they do not have symptoms of infection, will be subjected to institutional quarantine. Those without any symptoms (C category) will be sent home for home quarantine after their throat swabs are collected, as per the guidelines.

Arrangements will have to be made to provide local mobile sim cards for them immediately on their arrival at the airports. Shops will be arranged for the purchase of masks and sanitizers. Everyone will be stamped with quarantine seals at the airport.

The people of A category will be kept under institutional quarantine with medical supervision for 14 days. During the remaining14 days, they will be sent home and close monitoring will be on.

For the B category people, seven days institutional quarantine will be prescribed followed by seven days home quarantine. They will be under observation during the remaining 14 days. For C category people, there will be 14 days home quarantine and 14 days monitoring period.

They will be subject to three-stage tests. On the first day, they will be examined. A and B category people will be subjected to tests on the first day, between fifth and seventh day, and on 12th day. For C category people, tests will be conducted on the first day and between fifth and seventh day (two tests).
