Bengaluru, May 7: More than 56,000 Kannadigas, who are stuck in outstation states, have applied to come back to Karnataka. However, after five days, the government has approved only 7% of those applications.

Till the evening of Wednesday, May 6, 56,622 people have applied on the Seva Sindhu portal of the state. Government has so far approved only 4,068 applications and rejected 479.

A senior officer said that some applications were rejected as they do not carry an official address proof. According to chief of E-administration Rajiv Chawla, most of the applications were received from Maharashtra. In addition, people of Karnataka, who are stuck in states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar have also applied to return to the state. This includes migrant labourers, students, professionals and others. Nearly 20 to 30 percent people have appealed for transport by road.

Though the registration and medical examination of those who want to return to the state is done in the respective states where they are stuck now, the government of Karnataka has not permitted them to enter the state. Around 45,236 applications are pending for approval with various DCs of the state, while 6,749 applications are with nodal officers for approval. Sources have said that the governments of Gujarat, Telangana and Rajasthan have given No Objection Certificate (NOC) to their people to come back to their native places.
