Byndoor, May 15: Govinda Babu Poojary, a businessman here is commended for supplying drinking water to 60 families who have been badly affected amid the lockdown. Residents of the third and fourth ward in Bijoor gram panchayat limits were experiencing drinking water scarcity. Women were walking for miles to fetch water. Govinda Poojary has been supplying drinking water through Sri Varalaxmi Charitable Trust started by him for social work.

Water is being supplied whole day every day in the Trust's vehicle to residents in Kalisalu, Garadi, Nisargakeri and Dumlikeri of Bijoor gram panchayat. Young men in the village have joined hands for the noble work. They have made preparations to supply water till the beginning of monsoon this year. They are spending about Rs 10,000 every day for diesel, water, the wages for the driver and conductor.

Govinda Poojary who resides in Bengaluru was spending his time in hometown due to the lockdown. He stated that he has plans to help the villagers in more ways. It includes the construction of schools for poor children and a well for water.

Govinda Poojary has also distributed food kits to ASHA workers, nurses and the underprivileged apart from extending monetary help. He has supplied grocery kits to more than 600 families in Byndoor and Kundapur. He said that he will submit an appeal to the concerned officials requesting them to permanently solve the drinking water issue once the lockdown is lifted.
