Udupi: Fishing by mechanized boats banned from June 1 to July 31

Udupi, May 19: The government has banned fishing in Karnataka coast by mechanized boats using nets or using inboard or outboard machines beyond 10HP capacity installed on traditional boats between June 1 and July 31 in special economic zone.

It has permitted fishing in boats with motors within the capacity of 10 HP power.

Those boats that violate the orders will be liable for prosecution as per Karnataka Sea Fishing Act 1986 and will also be ineligible to receive diesel for a year.

The deputy director of fisheries has requested in a press release all the fishermen to cooperate in this connection.
