Udupi, Jun 8: An emergency meeting of district Muslim Okkoota held in Jamia mosque on Monday June 8 decided to open mosques only in village limits. It also decided to guide the respective mosque committees not to open mosques in city limits.

Okkoota district president Yasin Malpe announced the unanimous decision taken in view of the government’s approval to open mosques that remained closed due to Covid-19 lockdown. The mosques in villages may be opened in a day or two. However those will not be opened during Friday namaz. Those will be opened a few days before Friday namaz or days after Saturday.

A decision will be taken regarding opening of mosques in city, near national highways, town, and bus stand or railway station after reviewing the situation. As people are crowded during Friday namaz, a direction was conveyed to the mosque committees that it is better to conduct more than one jamaats on Fridays.

Government guidelines on safety including maintaining safe distance should be strictly followed. The respective jamaats will be responsible in case of violations.

Okkoota chief secretary Mohammed Moula, treasurer Iqbal S Katpady, Okkoota vice president Asfak Ahmed Karkala, Shaban Hangloor, former president M P Moidinabba, PFI district president Nazir Ambagilu, social activist Iqbal Manna and others were present.
