Kaup, Jun 9: A woman was found dead inside a canal of Shankhateertha rivulet at Biliyaru in Kurkalu village, Kunjarugiri on August 24, 2019. It was initially thought to be a case of accident. However, the police claim to have cracked the case and arrested a person. The Shirva police have arrested an accused and produced him in the court. He has been remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
Sulochana (42), wife of Chandrashekhar Devadiga from Kunjarugiri Biliyaru, had died in the above fashion. The arrested accused happens to be Vaman Purusha (56). The accused was arrested by a police team led by Shirva police sub-inspector, Srishaila Murgod.
Sulochana had left home on August 24 duly telling her son that she wanted to collect green grass. She had not returned for long. The family members who went searching found her body in a canal. A case of accidental slip and death due to drowning was registered in Shirva station. However, the post-mortem report indicated that she had died of electric shocks.
The accused had illegally fixed live wires around his field to avoid crops getting destroyed by animals. The woman who was not knowing this, came in contact with power when cutting grass. Purusha, who saw this, had shifted her body to a canal to project as if she had died of drowning.
On the basis of complaint made by the woman's husband, a case was registered against the accused.
