Shivamogga, Jun 15: Susheelamma (43) from Shikaripur in the district ended her life by consuming poison, feeling cheated and humiliated relating to property dispute within the family.
Susheelamma's husband, Chandrappa, had bought ten acres of land. He had registered this property in the name of his mother. Chandrappa's brothers, who had eyed this property, were pestering their mother to register this property in their names. On this issue, the brothers often fought with each other.
The mother finally arranged for negotiation and as per the arrangement agreed upon, shared the property equally between the three brothers. When Susheelamma visited the land that had been allocated to her husband, her brothers-in-law who were there, reportedly passed some insulting remarks which hurt her immensely.
Susheelamma, overtaken by a sense of insult, immediately consumed poison on the spot. She was taken to the city for treatment but breathed her last before reaching the hospital.
A case in this respect was registered in Shikaripur rural police station.
