Hebri, Jun 22: Shakuntala (21), a final year student of the degree college at Muniyal, had tried to end her life by consuming some poisonous substance on June 8. She had been admitted into hospital on the same day. On June 20, she breathed her last without responding to efforts made to save her life.

It is said that Shakuntala was worried about the prospects of not holding final year examination of her degree course because of the dominance of coronavirus infection. She was frustrated at the thought of the examination not taking place and her chances of remaining jobless. She had consumed poison on a farm connected to her family at Matibettu in Waranga village.

She was admitted into the Manipal hospital for treatment. As she did not show any signs of improvement, she was discharged and brought back home on June 19. On Saturday, June 20, she passed away. A report in this regard was filed in Hebri police station.
