Bengaluru, Jun 23: Dr S Rajendhra Prasad, vice-chancellor, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, has stressed the importance of providing improved agriculture package of practices to farmers as it is the knowledge repository on agriculture.

The scientists and extension officers can offer solutions to the agriculture problems and the farmers can get information while working in their field by searching in the mobile and there is no need to carry the book along with them. This act saves time, energy and money, he said after releasing an informative book brought out by the University on 'Improved Agriculture Package of Practices' in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

The book contains information on month-wise rainfall, rainy days and temperature which comes under the jurisdiction of UAS (B), covering 10 southern districts of Karnataka - Chikkaballapur, Hassan, Tumakuru, Ramanagara, Chamarajanagra, Bangalore (Rural), Bangalore (Urban), Mandya, Kolar and Mysuru districts.

The improved cultivation practices of cereals – Paddy, ragi, maize, foxtail millet, kodo millet, little millet, proso millet and barnyard millet, potential crop – Grain amaranths, pulses -  Red gram, green gram, black gram, cowpea, field bean, horse gram and Bengal gram. Oil Seeds - Groundnut, sunflower, castor, sesamum and niger.

Commercial crops – Sugarcane, cotton and tobacco, varieties and their special features, Integrated Nutrient Management, Integrated Pest Management and Yield. Information on facilities available at UAS (B) available in this book.

The multipurpose book by the University’s Directorate of Extension, priced Rs 200 is available at Agricultural Technology Information Centre (ATIC), GKVK.
