Mangaluru: Three arrested for murder of Adyar gram panchayat member

Mangaluru, Jul 15: In connection with the murder of Yakub, a former member of Adyar gram panchayat, on the night of Friday, Mangaluru rural station personnel have arrested three accused.

The names of the arrested accused have been given as Muhammed Shakir, Haneef, and Ahmed Shakir. They were presented before the judge through video conferencing facility. They have been remanded to police custody for conducting a coronavirus test. Their throat swabs have been collected and samples have been sent to the laboratory for testing, the police stated, adding that all the three would be produced in the court if their reports are negative.

It is said that Shakir and Yakub were bitter rivals. Shakir and his accomplices had invited Yakub in the guise of negotiations. They had then attacked Yakub with lethal weapons and murdered him. The police said that more people were involved with this murder and that they have gone underground now.
