Kasargod reports first ever major spike in coronavirus cases - 100 in single day

Kasargod, Jul 22: Coronavirus infection has been confirmed in more than 100 people in a day for the first time in the district. Among them, 89 people are infected from coming in contact with infected people. The total number of infected people has crossed the 1,000 mark.

Out of those infected on Wednesday, 40 are from Kumble gram panchayat limits, 15 from Kumbdaje, 11 from Badiadka, 4 each from Panattadi and Chengala, 3 each from Padanna and Kallar, 2 each from Nileshwar, Madhur, East Eleri and Chemnad and one each from Mangalpadi, Mogralputhur, Manjeshwar, Kasargod, Kanhangad, Puthige and Udma gram panchayat limits. The infected include six children below ten years of age. Over 43 people have been discharged on Wednesday after getting recovered.

The first infection in Kasargod was detected in a student who had returned from Wuhan, China on February 3. The second infection was reported on March 17. However, the number of infected people kept increasing after March 20.

The total number of infected people has reached 1,073 in the district. Among them, 487 are under treatment, while 585 have recovered. There are currently 132 infected people in Kumble gram panchayat limits, 127 in Chengala, 87 in Kasargod, 76 in Chemnad and 74 in Mangalpadi gram panchayat limits.
