Bangalore: Sri Sri Comes Down on Hussain’s Kind of ‘Creativity’

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Mar 10: Spiritual head of Art of Living Foundation, Sri Sri Ravishankar, has expressed surprise at the ruckus over painter M F Hussain’s decision to leave India and settle in Qatar. He has also criticized the renowned artist for creating nude paintings of Hindu gods.

“There is freedom of expression in India. At the same time, heaping insults by painting nude pictures of gods whom the people of the land worship, is not an acceptable act. The very motive behind this kind of creativity of this person is questionable,” he said in a statement.

Ravishankar recollects that out of the paintings of Mahatma Gandhi, Karl Marx, Albert Einstein and Hitler, which M F Hussain had painted, only Hitler’s painting was in the nude. When questioned, he had clarified that painting of a person’s nude picture is a way of insulting the man.

“No one has so far painted Seeta and Rama, who stand for high values as per Hindu mythology, in the nude. There is no objection painting any woman in the nude, but calling them by names like Seeta, Lakshmi, Saraswati etc., shows that the purpose behind the paintings is to give rise to enmity,” he added.

“Will Hussain show the same kind of enthusiasm and creativity he had shown about the Indian gods, about the heroes of Islam? Will he be able to do this in Qatar and continue to draw respect from the civilized world there? Dual principles, prejudices and hatred can never be able to be associated with sublimity,” he felt.

Religion of these two (Preacher and Artist) does not matter. Both are in same profession "Art of Living". I guess one preaches invisible spirituality and the other one the expressive visible art. Let people talk about them, not they need not talk about each other.

I dont understand why does the spiritual leader is giving discourse on Hussain's deeds. Everybody needs political agenda for their own success. This is where India is suffering.

Let preacher preach, teacher teach, artist paint, builder build, guilder guild, photographer flash. They just have to focus in their own field with no interference to others else there is no meaning. It is for public (especially who are bothered about them)to comment and decide what is good or bad.

Why Ravishankar & all the below guys are commenting about Islam? What did Islam do? Do you think that MF Hussain is Muslim? A true muslim will not do such kind. if you don't want MF let him go to hell (where ever he want) If you comment & take serious about this matter, then for sure you all like MF Hussain. Why do you all want Islamic heroes nude paint? Why cant you request for your own wifes nude paint? Hope you all understand what I mean to say.

The law should forbid anytype of obscenity and insulting/playing with religious sentiments of any community. India should uphold it's unity and diversity and multicultural, multireligious society values by respecting all religions of the land and sentiments.

SS Ravishankar is right. In a secular democratic set-up,you have the freedom of expression. That doesn't mean you have the right to hurt the sentiments of others FOR NO REASON.
Any act, speech, expression by any one, that is detrimental to the co-existance of multi-ethnic Indian society is not acceptable.

I completely agree with Sri Sri...As Sr Sri has mentioned, I challenge M F Hussain to paint nude some great Islamic heroes and gain respect from the Emirates or even for that matter our neighbour, Pakistan.....Does he have the guts????
Respect and freedom of practice of any religion depends on one's moral upbringing and choice of belief and no one individual ot faction has an right to question this sensitive issue.
