Mangalore: Dist Cong Questions Relevance of Coastal Development Authority

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Mar 11: District Congress vice-president Ivan D’Souza urged the government to give details of the development activities undertaken by the Coastal Development Authority set up by the state government soon after coming to power two years ago. He sought details like the list of activities and funds released for them through the Authority.

Addressing presspersons here on on Wednesday March 10, D'Souza said, “The chairman of the authority moves about in a car with a mast with police escort as well as convened one meeting since he assumed charge. These two appear to be the only activities the authority has undertaken so far, he alleged. The ruling party members claim that a sum of Rs 100 crore had been released for the development of the city. The government should give details of amounts released, he demanded.

“The road concreting works have been haphazard, with half-completed works visible everywhere. In the last one month, three people have succumbed to accidents. The works and unscientific digging of roads have been posing grave danger to the road users. Criminal cases can be filed against the negligence of the concerned,” he said.

Diverting his ire at the Comprehensive Development Plan, he termed it as a conspiracy hatched to ensure that only the builders get to construct houses in the city and not the common people. He warned that besides approaching the courts against this plan, agitations will be carried out till the plan is withdrawn.

Congress leaders, Kodijal Ibrahim, T K Sudhir, Sazir Bajal and Mithun Rai were present.
