Bellary: Group Clash in Halekote – Woman Dies, Over 20 Injured

Bellary, Mar 14: A minor dispute snowballed into a group clash at Halekote village of Siruguppa taluk in the district on Saturday. A woman was killed and more than 20 persons were injured in the clash that erupted on Saturday March 13.

After the incident, the policemen rushed to the spot and took charge of the situation. Additional police contingents were stationed to thwart outbreak of further clashes.

The deceased has been identified as Hanumantamma (50), who died from injuries caused to her forehead in stone pelting. The villagers had gathered to sort out a long-standing dispute between two villagers about tender allocation. The situation turned violent when a large crowd gathered there. One of the groups thereafter, pelted stones at the opposite group.

Additional district superintendent of police, Ashok Kurera, rushed the spot. The officials said the situation is under control now.
