Mangalore: Elephant Tusks Seized, One Arrested

Mangalore, Mar 14: The special forest mobile squad of the city division arrested a person from Paichar in Sullia taluk on Saturday March 13, when he was trying to illegally sell two elephant tusks. Four other accused ran away and escaped to safety.

Both the tusks are highly valuable and their value is not yet decided, the policemen said. The confiscated tusks have been handed over to the Sullia policemen.

The arrested man has been identified as Balakrishna Gowda (46) from Guttigar village in Sullia taluk. Those who escaped were Dayanand, Krishna, Vasudev and Shashi, all from Guttigar, it is gathered. The policemen said, they would be able to know how the gang got the tusks, once Shashi, who had allegedly brought the tusks, is arrested.
