Mangaluru, Aug 12: The southwest monsoon has lost its striking power. On Tuesday, coastal Karnataka experienced normal rains with patches of sunny climate in between. At the foot of the Western Ghats, some rain was experienced.

The meteorological department has continued yellow alert on Wednesday but normal rainfall is expected. As wind blowing over the sea has not lost its sheen, strong wind is experienced even when the quantum of rain is less. The department has warned the fishermen to stay away from the sea as wind velocity can touch 50 to 60 km per hour.

During the 24-hour period ended Tuesday morning, the city received 52.5 mm rainfall while Beltangady got 40.7 mm. The average rainfall in Dakshina Kannada was 38.2 mm.

Udupi district which experienced heavy rainfall late night on Monday at several places, received normal rainfall with sunny gaps in between on Tuesday. Loss of agricultural crops was reported from several villages. Water levels in rivers like Sauparnka, Swarna and Sita have gone down. The level of Swarna river at Baje dam came down from 8.5 to 6.65 metres. The district received average rainfall of 64 mm.
