New Delhi, March 22 (IANS) Short, grey hair, stringed glasses and frocks picked up from the streets... Dimple Kapadia goes de-glam for her role as a Parsi woman in \"Tum Milo Toh Sahi\", a look styled by her late sister Simple who died of cancer last year.
"It was Simple who came up with the idea of giving Dimple a short hairdo and frocks to wear for her Parsi look in 'Tum Milo Toh Sahi'," director Kabir Sadanand told IANS over the phone from Mumbai.
"Simple was my buddy and she gave many more inputs from her side for all the actors in the film before she passed away."
Dimple plays a 50-plus owner of an Irani cafe in Mumbai in the film. The crew went hunting for clothes from street shops to give the glamorous Dimple the authentic look.
"We wanted her character to look as authentic as possible. So we went and bought skirts, frocks and shirts off the streets of Mumbai. She sports stringed glasses which we bought from a Parsi optical store in Colaba.
"Dimple has also used a quilt which was knitted by her mother to make her character have the old world charm. We have not at all gone for any designer stuff for her," said Sadanand, for whom "Tum Milo Toh Sahi" is his second outing as a director.
The director, who made his debut with "Popcorn Khao! Mast Ho Jao" in 2004, says he could not have found a better actor for the movie that shows how love can happen at different ages.
"I could have never found someone so committed as her for the role that she has played. She takes every character beyond all levels and makes it look so beautiful. Through this movie, I wanted to show Dimple's inner beauty, not the outer beauty that she is known for and I hope we have managed it well," he said.
Sadanand says Dimple was adamant about using a whitener on her hair to look like an older woman running a cafe, even if the role didn't quite require her to do so.
"I told her that 50-year-old women no longer have white hair and that they all use hair dyes. But she said - 'I want to do it'. Such is her dedication."
In the movie, Dimple, 52, features alongside Nana Patekar, with whom she is teaming up after 16 years. Their last outing together was "Krantiveer".
Other actors in the movie include Suniel Shetty, Vidya Malvade, Anjana Sukhani and Rehan Khan. Produced by Nikhil Panchammiya, it will release April 2.
