Bengaluru, Aug 24: In a major relaxation to inter-state travellers coming to Karnataka, the state government has relaxed the norm for undergoing 14- day home quarantine.

In a circular released on Monday, additional chief secretary of health department Jawaid Akhtar has declared that the earlier requirement of mandatory 14-day home quarantine will not be enforced from now onwards.

The new guidelines will come into force with immediate effect from Monday.

There will no longer be medical check-up at the state borders, bus stations, railway stations and the airports, the circular said.

The state government has also relaxed other guidelines for all types of inter-state passengers.

Commuters coming from other states will not have to register on the Seva Sindhu portal, stamp on their hands etc. There will be no need for them to isolate or undergo testing.

There will be no home quarantine poster on their door and the resident welfare associations or the apartment owners association do not have to enforce home quarantine, the circular said.

The state government has also 'advised' asymptomatic passengers to self-monitor their health for 14 days from the date of arrival for any symptoms of COVID-19 like cough, fever, difficulty in breathing or throat pain and call the Apthamitra 14410 helpline if they need medical consultation.

The asymptomatic passengers can, however, report to work or perform any other activities in the state as per the new guidelines.

Jawaid Akhtar also said that the District Health Authority or the BBMP shall plan campaigns for the incoming travellers about the importance of self-reporting, self-isolation and undergo COVID-19 test for symptomatic persons.

What this means is the cases will show a sharp decline. The government said people coming into the state spread the virus. Now what? Now they might reduce testing, no quarantine, people can get treated at private hospitals on their own if they can afford it, no details will be collected from private hospitals and new cases therefore will reduce sharply. That's what government wants now. They saw more testing means more cases. On Friday last the country tested ten lakh samples, on Saturday eight lakh samples and on Sunday only six lakh samples. Even deaths at private hospitals may not be recorded as Covid 19 deaths. So there will be no right information. Ignorance is bliss!

Probably "herd immunity" is in place (the new definition is 20% seropositive). Now it is time to discard "herd mentality". Forget corona Be Happy Be Healthy.

Good decision.. there is no point in quarantine passengers..
Once symptoms comes, let them test and quarantine at their own cost..

Once symptoms appear into the body of the member, on uniting with the family members of the house, after his travel, definitely he will give to all the members till he goes to the hospital for treatment. .. Do you think, these guidelines are safe?

But is it possible to keep 6 feet distance at home? It's possible only, when he himself gets isolated for 14 days without coming into contact with any of his family members once he reaches his house from the other state....

Issue is the cases increased drastically because people refused to properly quarantine. If people had followed the qurantine properly then this wouldn't have happened. Some sort of issue people have with staying at home and not spreading the virus. Often times people are asymptomatic and think theyre fine which leads to them spreading the virus more.

This relaxation is too early, too risky, and therefore NOT AT ALL SAFE. I have a lot of people out and about not even bothering with basic safety procedures like wearing a mask or practisingsocial distancing.
