Udupi, Sep 3: As per the department of animal husbandry, a lumpy skin disease is being observed among cattle including buffaloes in Kundapur and Brahmavar taluks. It spreads due to mosquito bites and some other flying insects. The infected cattle get circular boils, mild fever, with decreased milk and reduced consumption of fodder.

Department veterinary doctors visit the residences of cattle owners if necessary and provide suitable treatment. It is necessary to maintain the cleanliness in the shed to control the disease.

The affected cattle should be tied separately. Mosquitoes and other flying insects should be controlled. Infected cattle should not be shifted.

Disinfectants should be sprinkled in the shed. The department officials have been directed to create awareness about the disease in all the gram panchayat limits and associations of milk producers. It is necessary to bury animals who die after sprinkling pesticide in a scientific manner, stated the director of the department of animal husbandry in a press release.
