Mangaluru: Mangaldevi procession committee demands permission for tiger dance

Mangaluru, Oct 10: Mangaladevi Dasara procession committee has demanded permission to hold tiger dance during this year's Dasara celebration.

Addressing the media here on Saturday October 10, president of the committee, Dilraj Alva said,"Tiger dance is the culture of Tulunadu. The district administration should allow performing tiger dance in simple manner during Dasara due to pandemic as decided by the tiger dance teams. Due to covid pandemic, tiger dance during Dasara was restricted. Meeting has been conducted by Mangaldevi and Mariyamma procession committee along with the tiger dance teams and demanded for a simple and symbolical way to perform tiger dance during Dasara.

Vice president Dinesh Kumpala said, "According to the tiger dance troops, this time tiger dance will be performed only to recieve the blessings of God and not to generate income or entertainment out of it. Tiger dance has special recognition during Navarathri and it is a culture to perform during the procession. Dasara without tiger dance is equal to dasara without Jambu Savari in Mysuru.

General secretary Girish Shetty, vice president Hanish N Bolar and others were present.
