Udupi: Children’s rights should be properly implemented in the district – DC G Jagadeesha

Udupi, Nov 14: “Udupi should be made a model district by the proper implementation of children’s rights,” said deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha.

He was speaking after setting in motion an information campaign on childline services against child marriages, eradication of child labour and beggary held at the deputy commissioner’s office premises on Friday by the district legal services authority, district labour department and Zilla Balakarmika Yojana Sangha.

“We should make sure that children do not become victims of child labour and beggary. Such children should be educated at residential schools. Children of migrant workers are becoming victims of such ills in charge of numbers. The district should be made child-friendly by creating awareness among migrant workers,” he said.

Senior civil judge and district legal services authority member secretary Kaveri said that there are possibilities of violations of children rights during the current period of COVID-19 pandemic. “Priority should be given to the security of children. We should go to the doorsteps of children and listen to their issues. People should call 1098 when they come across violations of children’s rights,” she said.

The Deputy Commissioner released posters about children’s rights on the occasion.

District panchayat CEO Dr Navin Bhat, additional deputy commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, district labour officer Kumar, labour inspector Pravin Kumar, children protection unit legal observer Prabhaker Achar, B K Narayan and others were present.

Childline director Ramachandra Upadhyaya welcomed everyone, gave an introduction and rendered a vote of thanks.
