Mangaluru, Dec 8: Former MLC and Karnataka Pradesh Congress spokesperson Ivan D'Souza on Tuesday December 8 said that the BJP led-union and state governments are off track.

Addressing a press meet at Congress Bhavan, here, Ivan said, "The government at the centre and in the state both have indulged anti-farmers policies. The Karnataka government has tabled Agricultural Produce Marketing (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill, Land Reforms Act and Labour Act without holding any discussion or bringing it to the public domain.

"But the bills fell in Vidhan Parishad. Before introducing any bill, the government should discuss the demerits and merits of the bill.

"The prime minister and the chief minister should meet the farmers and address their problem. The union government should withdraw anti-farmer agricultural laws.

"Today, hundreds of farmers have hit the streets protesting against the government for its anti-farmer policies. If the agricultural laws introduced by the BJP government are not affecting the farmers then why would they come to streets protesting against the government? Now, the state government is heading to bring an Anti-Cow Slaughter Bill. Minister for Animal Husbandry Prabhu Chauhan visited Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat to bring a stringent law against cow slaughtering.

“Will the BJP-led government in Goa bring the law on anti-cow slaughtering or will they ban it in the entire country? India is the largest exporter of beef. Will the union government stop beef export?” he questioned.

He also said that the BJP wants to raise issues eyeing on the gram panchayat elections.

He said that the BJP government which wants table law to prevent forceful conversion, should clear what is 'love jihad'. "When you introduce any law, the motive should be clear and it should be discussed in the public domain," Ivan said.

He also alleged that the government is suppressing minorities.
