Bengaluru: State to end gambling, seeks to strengthen NDPS Act

Bengaluru, Dec 9: Home minister Basavaraj Bommai stated that in order to stop gambling activities in the guise of recreation clubs, and to treat gambling as a punishable offence, amendment will be brought to the state police act. He was replying to a question raised by Congress legislator Ishwar khandre, at the state assembly during the question hour.

Bommai stated that the state government has declared war against intoxicating substances. He pointed out as against 1,100 to 1,660 cases previously registered against drug peddling annually, this year 3,852 cases have been filed. Out of them, charge sheet has been filed in 2,255 cases. He stated that in the past, FSL reports used to be delayed, but now, 51 samples can be checked at a time. The state has set forensic science laboratories at five places, he explained.

The minister stated that the government has cracked the case of sale of drugs through the dark web. "We have detected 21 dark web portals. Human trafficking through dark web also is on the increase. To strengthen the current NDPS Act which is not having enough tough provisions, we will recommend to the central government to make the act more stringent, he said.
