Yousuf Firm on Retirement Despite Afridi's Request

Karachi, May 25 (IANS): Shahid Afridi's effort to convince Mohammed Yousuf to reverse his retirement decision went in vain when the seasoned batsman turned down the all-rounder's request.

According to a source, Afridi, who is all set to captain Pakistan in the upcoming assignments, contacted Yousuf to change his mind but he refused by saying his decision is final.

Yousuf announced retirement from international cricket after the board imposed an indefinite ban on him in the aftermath of Pakistan’s disastrous tour of Australia.

Afridi wanted the experienced duo of former captains -- Younis Khan and Yousuf who were considered the backbone of Pakistan cricket before both were banned -- for the tour of England, the source said.

"Afridi is aware of the tough English conditions and that is why he wants both the top batsmen in the team," said the source.
