Why would India import when there is fertile land and sufficient water to grow it's own food grains ? Wasn't there food production happening before 2020 in India ? The current government is making things messy by involving corporate honchos into agriculture.

The government is all so free to let the rich business families' involvement in agriculture but it should start from the APMG onwards, not from the fields where the crops are sowed/harvested. Leave the farmers to function as they were, do not stir their tranquility. If at all the corporates want to help, let them donate a tiller, tractor or an harvesting machine. Do not get the farmers sign contracts that are complex and full of tricky clause to deceive the illiterate, gullible farmers.

You say and i quote "Why would India import when there is fertile land and sufficient water to grow it's own food grains" ?.

At least use google and know what the water table in Punjab & Haryana was few decades old and what it is now. the water table these states is going down at an alarming rates. Not just that it is going down in other states too.

Remember that excessive agriculture will destroy the top soil. we should give sufficient time for top soil to heal.

Agriculture is also one of the reasons for global warming & climate change. There is optimum for everything more so in the case of Agriculture.
