Earlier Report

Reports coming in from Hera in Renjilady village in the taluk state that a leopard has attacked two people there.

Reportedly, a leopard attacked two persons at Hera, Renjilady, at around 1.30 am on Friday, February 11. The injured were Shekhar Kamath and Saumya Kamath. They were changing the water jets at their areca nut plantation when the incident happened.

It is said that this could be the same leopard which had escaped from the hands of forest department officials where their plan to nab the leopard that had been confined in a toilet had failed.

The injured have been admitted to the Kadaba community health centre. The leopard is stated to be inside the plantation where it attacked the two. Forest officials have undertaken an operation again on Friday, in an effort to trap the leopard.

The leopard came out of the plantation and got perched on a tree later on.

Preparations are in full swing in order to somehow trap the leopard before it inflicts further damage.

Assistant conservator of forests, Austin P Soans, ranger Raghavendra, Manjunath, and other officials have come. They are taking steps to catch the leopard and not to allow it to escape as in a recent incident.

Wishing you both a speedy recovery. Let the leopard be caught alive as early as possible and rehabilitated at some reserve forest.

Gross negligence by forest officials. If forest officials are unable to control the wild animals venturing outside their domain then people should be allowed to shoot the animals for their self defence. This issue was recently discussed in vidhan sabha.
