Bengaluru, Feb 18: After the state high court raised objection, the state government has withdrawn the order it had passed nominating Benglauru urban zilla panchayat president, G Mariswamy as a member of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

An order to this effect was passed by the under secretary in the department of environment and forests, on February 9. A memo on this development was filed in the high court on
Wednesday February 17.

The bench of the high court which heard a public interest litigation filed by Anjaneya Reddy from Patrenahalli, Chikkaballapur, had asked the government to explain whether Mariswamy was appointed as a member of the board on January 25 by violating the high court order and also overlooking the eligibility criteria.

On August 8, the high court had asked the government to obtain prior permission from the high court before posting the chairman of the board, member sectetary, and members. Therefore, the government should have obtained court permission for appointing the chairman, member sectetary or members.

The petitioner had therefore sought the order dated December 30 passed by the under sectetary in the forest and environment department nominating Mariswamy as member.
