Udupi: District Falls in Line – Bans Ore Truck Movement

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jul 6: Falling in line with the Dakshina Kannada district administration, which had banned movement of heavy vehicles and ore-laden trucks on its highways during the monsoon months, the district deputy commissioner here, through an order, has restrained movement of ore tracks and trucks with heavy loads from moving on national highways 17 and 13 in the district.

Heavy rains have been causing landslides and damaged roads in the district. The roads and bridges in the district face the risk of suffering extensive damages during the monsoon months. In view of these problems, ban has been enforced from Shirur border in the north to Hejmady in the south, and again, from D K border to Beluvai. The ban order will be in force till November 15.

During the monsoon months, accidents also occur because of slippery roads and decrease in the efficiency of the brakes of vehicles, leading to fatal accidents. A press release from the deputy commissioner said that the decision to ban vehicular movement was taken in tune with the recommendations contained in the reports received from the executive engineer, Mangalore division of National Highways Authority of India, district superintendent of police, and the regional transport officer.
