Kasargod: Kerala HC Orders Transfer of Jabbar Murder Case to CBI

Kasargod, Jul 8: The state High Court (HC) has ordered for the transfer of a case pertaining to the murder of Basheer alias Abdul Jabbar (29), a resident of Kudkoli near Nalka, Perla in the district, who was a youth Congress leader, to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). It has expressed the apprehension that the delaying tactics employed by the state policemen and the listless investigation proceedings are likely to derail the investigation, if left unchecked.

The HC said that it has taken this step in order to affirm the faith of the people in the judiciary. It has pinpointed the role played by the then circle inspector of Kasargod, T P Premarajan, in subverting investigations relating to the murder.

Justice V Ramakumar of the High Court made these observations, while hearing a petition filed by Hasainar alias Achchu, father of Jabbar, demanding that the case relating to the death of his son be handed over to CBI.

“Premarajan has through his action, cleverly and purposefully tried to help the culprits to go off the hooks. Instead of identifying a particular person as the prime suspect, he has named him as the 35th witness in the case, while collecting evidences. He also ensured that the policemen filed a misleading report in the court, claiming that the suspect had absconded.  Hence, all the files relating to the murder case filed in Badiyadka police station in Kasargod district should be handed over to the CBI officials,” he said in his order.

It may be noted that Sudhakar Master, Kumble area secretary of CPM, is the prime suspect in the above murder, and there have been clashes between the activists of CPM and Muslim League on the issue.
