Bangalore, Jul 14 (DHNS): After a seven-year long wait, the family of Girish can now heave a sigh of relief. Justice, though delayed, was not denied to this family.
Girish, an engineer with Intel, was murdered by his fiancee, Shubha, near Air View, Domlur-Kormangala Ring Road, on the night of December 3, 2003.
“God is great! It was worth the wait and despite the delay of nearly seven years, our judicial system has not let us down. Now, my son and husband can rest in peace,” said 65-year-old Pushpavalli, immediately after the judgment convicting the four accused in her son’s murder case was pronounced on Tuesday.
However, the quantum of punishment will be pronounced on Wednesday by the XVII Fast Track Court Judge Vanti Kodi.
Girish’s 104-year-old grand mother Kanka Lakshamma was all praise for the judiciary and thanked ex-servicemen Thomas and Tollyukken, who had witnessed the crime.
A relieved Ramesh, Girish’s brother, an engineer with Bosch, who keenly followed the case and was present in the court along with his mother, told Deccan Herald: “Girish was a brilliant student. My father went into depression and died in 2007.”
Girish and Shubha were engaged on November 30, 2003. The two met for dinner on December 3. “Midway, she hatched a plot and roped in her boyfriend and his associates, assaulted and killed my brother near Air View,” recalled Ramesh. Girish was taken to the nearby hospital, where he succumbed to injuries the next day.
Giving details of the case, Special Public Prosecutor Venkat Rao said: “Arun Verma, the main accused, and Shubha were students of the same law college. He approached Dinesh, one of his relatives, who in turn took the help of another friend Venkatesh. There is ample evidence to prove that Shubha was behind the murder and is booked for conspiracy and killing.” Shubha and Verma had secured bail from the High Court.
Cellphone service provider's evidence came in handy in deciding the case. Shubha was constantly in touch with Verma and other two.
After the crime, they had exchanged SMSes and had conversed at length. Venkatesh used a shock absorber rod to murder Girish.
“After Bharti Urs was acquitted in a murder case, we were bit apprehensive. Now, we can heave a sigh of relief and truth has prevailed,” said Venkat Rao.
