Bangalore: Life sentence for Advocate Shubha, Paramour

Bangalore: Life sentence for Advocate Shubha, Paramour

Bangalore, Jul 15 (DC): The hall of the 17th fast track court was jam-packed on Wednesday evening as judge S.K. Ontigodi pronounced his order sentencing 28-year-old Shubha, accused in the murder case of her fiance, B.V. Girish and three others to life imprisonment. The court had found them guilty on Tuesday.

Most of those in the room were advocates and the public who were keen on catching a glimpse of the accused in the high profile case. The sentence was to be announced at 11 am but was deferred to 4 pm. The other accused in the case are Shubha’s former boyfriend Arun Verma, Venkatesh and Dinakar alias Dinesh. The court slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on them and ordered an additional 10 months simple imprisonment if they defaulted on the fine.

Shubha was further sentenced to undergo three years imprisonment for an offence under section 201 for causing the disappearance of evidence and for giving false information to protect an offender. She will have to pay an additional fine of Rs 25,000 and undergo 6 months simple imprisonment if she defaults on the payment, public prosecutor B. Venkat Rao said.

According to him, Shubha had erased the messages she had sent from her mobile phone to the other accused. “She had behaved as if she was not aware of the conspiracy to murder Girish and also concealed information about the other accused. The court concluded that she hid the truth and also hatched the conspiracy,’’ Rao said.

The prosecutor sought the highest punishment for the accused but the counsel for Shubha contended that she was just 21 year old when the crime took place. He also argued that Shubha was not a regular offender nor could the crime be categorised as the rarest of the rare. The murder happened on the night of December 2, 2003 just four days after Girish and Shubha were engaged.

Girish’s elder brother Ramesh and his wife Ratna said they felt relieved after the accused were sentenced to life terms. Ratna said she was waiting for a copy of the judgment.

If she want dont want Girish she could have told her family about it. Lets give benefit of doubt may be her family forced her to marry him. Using her brain, she could have run away with her boy friend rather than killing the innocent guy.Suppose she come out from bail do you think she can live in a piece and peace? I dont think so. If we face the same situation of Girish do we say that it is his karma that he has to die in this way? I think it is rediculous. In her face she is not showing any remose of what she has done to a innocent man.Do we still need to feel pity on her? No way

Just because she is a female, it doesnt mean that what she did has to be excused. You are speaking lie someone related to her. One such female like this is enough to bring the entire female race to shame. I just cannot believe that all the sensible people like you are feeling sad and sorry for her just because she is good looking. What it she was an ugly girl would that make a difference of opinion. Where are the women organization who always shout that men are morons who torture women and kill them everyday. What to they have to say about this. Death is too easy for her and if there is something more rigorous than what she has been sentenced to then that should be her punishment. She should be made an example. If everyone in the prison is sexually harassed then there is a separate name for it and our prisons are not like that. Sanam has spoken like a true stupid moron don't know the difference between a mistake and a crime. A mistake is an unplanned incident against your will where as a crime is a skillfully uted plan to make things according to your will. She is spitting on everyone who is looking at her by showing a face with no regret. I wish electrocution was still a valid punishment but lucky for her that our law has reformed.

No one think of Murder for just engaging marriage to others. Its all fate of Shubha. Girish death was very very loss to Girish family. His father also died because of this. But educated and well settled family one like Shubha did not think of murder. What shubha done wrong is shubha tried to save his lover. You know putting in Jail means she has to face sexual harrasments daily. Shubha's parents also did not sleep in nights by thinking of their beloved daughter. By God Promise i am saying my brother is Very Intellegent Engineer. In Intermediate he got 92 %. Because of SC Reservation we think we my brother is conform IAS or IPS Officer. But he died in accident in 2004. When he is going by Motor Cycle Auto Hit him. I Know the pain of Girish Family with experience. But Shubha female has to face harrashments in prision. Girish family did not do this. Shubha family will be very much Upsetted for this. Girish family should relise the fate and should save Shubha from 14 years prision life. The mistake shubha did is shubha tried to save his lover and other three from murder. God will help Girish Family for their kind help. They will be blessed a lot. I hope Jeasus Christ will save Shubha. Jeasus Christ is the only one who can save Shubha.Jeasus Christ.

Are sentences are too light. THe fines are too light. In a city lIke bangalore where kids blow up 50,000 the fine for defaulting looks trivial. A ordinary House sit ein Bangaloe is in the range of 40-50 Lacs. THe judges or the Penal Code should be revamped so that the FInes are exorbitant that people have to think twice befoe comitting a crime.ALso the life imprisonment in India is to light permanently behind bars till death should be implemented. jaykar, bangalore,

Its possible she was on bail, pending trial, and as per as I know, there are no beauticians in prison!!!....

Now if she was in love with somebody, why her parents should force her to marry somebody else is beyond my reasoning...

How ever no reason is good enough to conspire to kill anybody...

Well she has lots of appeal processes still available and open to her, lets see...

I wont be surprised if this judgement is overruled by superior courts, on technicalities...

Being a lawyer herself I am sure she can defend herself....Time will answer all questions.

In this case mian point is overlooked, As per Hindu mythological values human life is based on JATHAKA/KUDALI (projection of life sketch since the time of Birth to death.) If this predection was perfect this incident would not occured because both belongs to one religion, The Educated innocent man wouldn't become a victim and Educated beautiful lady and her associates wouldn't become a offenders. It is not an accident it is an incident! Therefore, the PANDIT who organised bothsides life sketch should brought for justice! and should be prosecuted as per law!

I salute you, shubha. Whatever your crime, court had given verdict. There ends matter and further legal process available for both the sides. But do the advocates in that Court complex should behave in such an unprofessional manner making such comments on you, without even heeding to the senior's advise. They deserve no respect. You did the right thing by remaining calm and with shrewed look.

They all were jealous of beauty and courage. In your position they would have had wet pants and eyes. They lack basic qualities of an advocate and capacity. They all fit to attest some false papers for a meager fees and claim to be FS Nariman, Paulkiwwala etc. Given an important and serious case, they will run a miles distance as they know only a few sections of IPC and nothing more. I salute you for ignoring them in such a passion and being calm. Pity is that that the presiding officer allowed all the tamasha to happen in front of his eyes without even bothering to wink his eyes to stop such tamasha in the court of justice. Crime is another story, for that our system, Rule of law is there to punish the guilty but behaving in unprofessional manner and being a mute spectator for the whole thing is not allowed in any civilized society. I only feel the sanctity of the hall of justice should have been saved that day.

"A mud pot having milk will be ranked higher than a golden pot having poison. It's not our outer glamour but our inner virtues that make us valuable.

Shubha I say you never loved verma Because love is peace, love is sacrifice, love is serenity. Had you understood this, you wouldn't have done that. You killed girish and also his father died in 2007 out of depression and currenly killing his fly members. What did you gain?
Now please go thru the punishment. May be before completion of 14 yrs law may release you on the ground of your good character/behaviour.

I fear you may join underworld after 14 yrs imprisonment. Coz hopefully now or 14 yrs later you certainly feel abandoned. Pl dont do that.
I recall one thought by a gr8 person "business without ethics, politics w/o principles and education w/o good character is not only useless but also dangerous.

With due respect for Law profession the scene in the court hall and the behaviour of some of the advocates was not in line with their profession. They were making such objectional and vulgar comments on Shubha. Whatever her crime and the court gave her punishment. But she was made as an object to look at in the court hall right in front of the Judge. He remained a mute spectator. Men, please go after virtues and not beauty. I can bet that she will be out on bail within next 6 months. Our judicial system is very good for culprits! Now all anti-social elements including terrorists know the slogan "One is innocent till he/she is proven guilty". Also, please don't be under the impression that whatever comes in the media is truth or the only truth. There must be other dimentions to this case. In any case, she deserves this punishment. But what is surprising is that her guts even after the judgement!! Normally, accused burst into tears as soon as the judgement is pronounced!!!

To begin with, it was much easier for her to deal with this issue before the engagement, even after the engagement by discussing with her parents/family about her love life than taking these extreme steps. Anyway for me she doesn't look like normal and that says it all.

If you have the courage to plan and kill someone, you better have the courage to come open to your parents and defend your love. 21yr old is not a kid. She was matured enough to plan murder. If arguing with her parents had not worked, instead of killing Girish, she should have confided in him and made him talk to her parents.
Killing a person does not resolve anything. She's also responsible for the death of Girish's father and his family's grief.

Why does our justice system take so long in comming to conclusions and awarding sentences to the accused even though they have enough proof and evidence in such cases? When people like this have the guts and planning to commit such crimes they will even have plans to get out their crime. A speedy judgment will control crimes as criminals minds will have fear ,that they will be procecuted if found guilty. Our judicial system has to speed up so that the guilty dosent have time to make roads for escape.

This is a good lesson to this idiot lady, let her waste her young age in the cell. After coming out from the cell sure she will hang herself.

Tragic indeed. She appears composed and seems to have accepted the fruit of her actions unlike the paramour.

One wonders what made Subha to do this despicable act. This murder was probably done out of sheer vengeance for whatever reason. Ultimately the peace of so many families has been destroyed for an action done without thinking of the consequences!!

Let serenity reign upon this troubled minds!!

Sad to see a young girl has spoiled her life. But she deserved it.. "Satya Meva Jayate..."

"Keep Connected with your Teens.." article by Robin Almeida is very useful article, when we see these kind of incidents are happening in the young (fast) generation. Thanks Daiji..

This particular case is rarest of rare because with in a week of engagement the would be husband was murdered! An innocent human perished for the love affair with other person of his would be wife. What a unfortunate things to happen on earth.Shubha and her accomplice  should be hanged instead of life sentence.

MAY THE DEPARTED SOUL REST IN ETERNAL PEACE.

Shame-less, Mercy-less cruel people deserve the punishment. An innocent, brilliant, intelligent engineer lost his life because of these criminal minds. The girl if she didn't want to marry him, could have told him so. He wouldn't have married her. Instead she planned to murder him with help of her boyfriend who is another brain-less creature. Let the departed soul find some peace with this sentence.
