Udupi, Aug 5:
A fisheries road located along the coast in the district was totally washed away on Wednesday August 4 due to mammoth sea waves.

The fisheries road at Padukere in the limits of Udyavar gram panchayat was washed away by massive waves from the Arabian Sea brought about by heavy rains and winds on Wednesday evening. The fisheries road was laid with concrete in 2004 under the Pradhan Mantri’s Gram Sadak Yojna.

High tidal waves have been lashing the Padukere fisheries road for many days. With the road being fully washed away on Wednesday evening it cut-off connectivity for the residents who are now marooned on an island.

The residents had urged the district administration ahead of the monsoon, to take measures to protect the lifeline of their locality.

Local MLA Lalaji R Mendon paid a visit to the spot and instructed the district administration to dump boulders into the sea, a little away from the washed away road to minimize the impact on the sea-erosion prone locality.
