Mangalore. Aug 8: The 14th annual general body meeting of Konkani Writers Forum , Karnataka ®, and the election for the new managing committee, was held at Don Bosco Mini Hall on Sunday August 8.

General secretary Dolphy Fredrick Lobo began the meeting with prayers. It was followed by a silent tribute led by president Marcel M D’Souza, in remembrance of the members who died in the past year.

The meeting gave the official nod to the minutes of 13th annual general body meeting read out by Fredrick Lobo and approved the income and expenditure account for the year ended on 31st March 2010, presented by treasurer J F D’Souza. The meeting also appointed auditors for the next year and fixed their remuneration.

Before the election Richard Moras of Konkani Kutam, Bahrain, felicitated forum members Dr Edward L Nazareth and Cyril G Sequeira for bagging the Sandesha Award and Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Book Award, respectively.

Vallya Vogga, M P Rodrigues, and Lancy Pinto Nayak were absent for the felicitation.

After a gap of several years, nominations to various posts of office-bearers were filed in the history of Konkani Writers Forum, Karnataka ®. Marcel M D ‘Souza (president), Dr Pius Fidelies Pinto (vice-president), and executive committee member Paul Moras had filed the nominations for the post of president and Dr Nazareth had filed the nomination for the post of secretary.

In spite of some members’ objection to the point that Dr Pinto is not present at the meeting and he constantly lives outside India and will not be available for the Forum’s work, secretary Fredrick Lobo, who was the election officer till then, called for an election and Judith Mascarenhas was appointed election officer.

For sometime, chaos prevailed and in the process Marcel D’Souza withdrew his nomination. In the secret ballot, Moras won the election with a sound margin over Dr Pinto.

Later, the following members were elected:

Victor Mathias (Vithori Karkal ) – Vice-president
Alice Fernandes (Shalini Valencia ) – Vice-president
Henry Mendonca (H M Pernal ) – General secretary
Tony Ferros (Raknno ) – Joint secretary
Joachim Pinto (Pinto Vamanjur – Daijiworld Weekly) – Treasurer
Marcel M D’Souza – Executive committee member
Gladys Rego - Executive committee member
John A Monis ( Editor, ‘Dirvem’ ) -  Executive committee member
Santosh Alwyn Lobo (Santhu Omzoor – Editor, ‘Daivik Amruth’) - Executive committee member
Praveen Tauro (Daijiworld.com) - Executive committee member

The outgoing president and secretary handed over charge to new president Paul Moras and new general secretary H M Pernal.

There is an error crept in the sentence written by me as reply to Mr. Antony T. D'Souza's comment on Vimarso by the Forum. The sentence should read as "Vimarso of late Victor Rodrigues was NOT done by the Forum".

While glancing through the report, I felt extremely happy to see the photographs of some truly great pillars of the Konkany Community whom I have always held in highest respect and who have enormously contributed towards the language and also to the community as a whole……I am referring to Dolphy Lobo (Dolphy Cascia), Macha Milar, Dr.Edward Nazareth and the Shakespeare of Konkany literature CGS – Cyril baab, who had been my closest and perhaps the best and sincere-most friend I ever had here in Qatar. Also I pay my respects to the late Victor Rodrigues (May his soul Rest in Peace), and to an important gentleman missing in the group – Jerry Kulshekar.

Also my hearty Congratulations to New President, Mr.Paul Moras of Konkani Writers Forum. Seeing his face after nearly 25 years, I must say he looks as young as I saw him then.

While on my part I do not have any significant contribution to the Konkany field, however as a humble member of the community I do believe that all of you are truly great men - the very pillars of the community upon whom an endless invisible multi-storyed "building" of the Konkany Community will be continuosly built and which will last for hundreds or even thousands of generations to come.

Having bid adios to Mangalore, I do not know if I will ever get a chance to greet all of you gentlemen personally anytime in this life again, but my personal best wishes will be always with each and everyone of you….!!!

I feel wonder after reading all comments that most of them are turning around the politics and vimarso. No one has suggested some good steps – how forum can be developed in the future. I don’t know why our veteran writers are not responding to newly elected committee which is consisted of youth writers (which is really a good development & we should feel happy for this). The tone of most of the comments published are that, only two-three popular senior writers are capable of improving the forum. Then why many of people are unaware of the forum? As Robert Pinto rightly said, youth writers are not given scope to come forward. But this election has showed really a good result. Bagwadgeetha says, PARIVARTHANE JAGADA NIYAMA. Change is healthy. So as to the forum.
I request Dr Edward Nazareth, Dolphy Cascia & CGS to come forward and give their suggestions bcoz they are experienced. Please.
And about vimarso – the people who are commenting against vimarso are not rational. Before opposing they must read the literature of other languages, then they will get the JNANODAYA.

Vimarso or crtiticism is not a insult or degrading anybody we need more vimarso for the growth of Konkani literature stop commenting like the "frogs in the well" just see where the konkani literature(specially mlorean) stand in comparision to our neighbouring launguages like kannda or marathi or tamil etc...its besause the lack of criticism and the un willingness to accept it.konkani writers must learn to accept it rather than crying about Vimarso as mentioned by Mr. Martis

Rev Dr Pius Fidelis Pinto had submitted Affidavit and promised that he would work hard for the K.W.F.Karnataka(Regd.) if he is elected as the President of the same. It is not true that he will stay outside India henceforth. He has served the Forum as Vice President in two terms and organised/co-ordinated many programmes of the Forum.

Its very funny asking sombebody to keep permanent in the Ex committee. There is no doubt or issue on Dr Edward Nazareth's service. He has served and his service can not be forgotten by anybody. But that doesn't mean somebody should hold the office permanently. Konkany Writers Forum is not the property of one or two persons. There were attempts each time that they only should get elected. Where is democracy then? They always keep saying younger generation should come forward. But each time when young talents come forward many try to avoid them by doing silly politics. Then why preach if you dont practice? New Office Bearers have 2 years of time and let them prove something different by conducting good programmes. Its not fair that if others get elected, you should stay away. Dolphy Cascia, Dr Edward should support new team and work for the betterment of the Forum and society in general. I hope new committee will bring transferency in the working of the Forum and reach more people by doing good work.

New President, Paul Moras of Konkani Writers Forum has to restrict the boundaries of so called Progressive Thinkers who are within the Konkani Forum are humiliate other writers calling under ‘Vimarso’. Gossip writing is nothing but heinous work to degrade the most acclaimed writers who recently passed away (Victor Rodrigues, Angelore) and those who are among our midst. Public has to play the role of ‘Vimarso’ and not one writer about another writer. New Konkani writers should not stoop to low to be in the limelight for the wrong reasons. Can ‘Dirve’ weekly’s editor and its columnists take the lead in this new dimension of progressive thinking.?

Congratulations to Paul Moras and his office bearers.   Konkani writers should not insult and humiliate the elder writers like Jerry Kulshekar, Victor Rodrigues and others. Some have insulted Victor Rodrigues, Dolphy Cascia and others by sending offending sms. Some have insulted Dolla, Leslie Rego and other humorous artistes by attacking in the name of Vimarso(review).

They have insulted Dr.Edward Nazareth also. There was a ficticious group called Progressive Thinkers who had attacked Lloyd Rego, the editor of Mithr magazine in several times.

Hope the new team of Konkani writers Forum will organise some good programmes very often.

Congrats to you all the new committee members. Really happy to see the new faces on the prominent posts & youth writers in the committee, after so many years.

I really don't know about the politics in the forum. I was aware of the tug of war between senior and young writers in the name of `SHENN sahity'. Was it continued in the forum?! Then its not a good development. I am really confused, whether senior writers are not accepting young ones or young writers are not accepting seniors.

Now its a decisive time to accept one another and to unite. If this doesnt happen, it will be an irreparable damage to konkani. Wish good days ahead.

Its very sad that politics is played even in the election of Konkani Writers'Forum. It shows that there's some groupism among the Konkani writers which is very harmful for the growth of Konkani
language and culture. The new President and his team should try to unite all the writers and not
    break the unity.

Congratulations to the President Paul Moras and all the office bearers. Yes, with due respect, election collusion could avoided the election controversy.

Konkani Writers Forum, Mangalore has an unique role to play among our own society. Sad to note that recently within a day or two after demise of Late eminent Konkani writer Victor Rodrigues ‘vimarso’ was taken place in some of the Konkani forum in a mere intangible way. Victor Rodrigues was like your own elder family member in the Konkani Writers Forum. With due respect ‘vimarso’ could have taken place while he was living with you, had you any scores to settle with him. He might have SURELY pleased to give you one all within one shot !. By that Konkani Forum’s mean attitude, have hurt his grieving family and also his numerous fans over 40 years who can outnumber your all fans put together !.

Some of you young writers, respect without any EXCUSE to those who toiled for Konkani prior to you like Rt. Rev. Dr. Pious Pinto and Dr. Edward Nazareth. Also give up cheap fame (vimarso) seeking controversial writings or so the future forum elections. Also I take this opportunity to my immune respect to all the Konkani Forum Writers.
