Mangalore: Litterateur Amrutha Someshwar Receives ‘Vishu Kumar Award’

Mangalore, Aug 8: Litterateur Amrutha Someshwar was honoured with the ‘Vishu Kumar Award’ in a ceremony held at Jawarharlal Nehru Community (JNC) Hall on Sunday August 8.

The award is instituted in the memory of late Vishu Kumar, story writer, journalist, dramatist, and a politician, who died at an early age. The award has been set up by ‘Yuvavahini’, a registered regional committee.

Sadhoo Poojary, former president of the association, introduced Amrutha Someshwar.

Prof K Chinnappa Gowda, registrar, Mangalore University, in his presidential speech, said that being a student of litterateur Amrutha Someshwar, he was happy to attend a function where the veteran writer was being honoured by the organization in his 75th year. He said that it was an award for Someshwar’s good work as he always indicates his concern for society in his articles.

Speaking to the audience, Someshwar said that he felt as if he was with his family and could feel the love of the people. He said that he felt the programme was a token of love given to him and the late Vishu Kumar, with whom he was acquainted.

He described Someshwar as a handsome guy with a serious personality who was extremely knowledgeable.

‘Kari Kotu’ a Kannada book written by Thammayya, was released by NM PT secretary Harichandran on this occasion.

K Avinash, BCom student of Gokarnanath College, was also honoured for his writings by Prabhakar Neermarga, who guided the student towards literature.

Litterateur Vasanth, and Jayaram Karandur president, Yuvahini, were also present on the occasion.
