'Peepli Live' Took Me Back to My Birthplace: Big B

New Delhi, Aug 13 (IANS): "Peepli Live" from Aamir Khan Productions has left megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his actress wife Jaya Bachchan highly impressed. He says the film reminded him of his birthplace.

"Aamir invited Jaya and myself to view his film 'Peepli Live’ and then for dinner to his house. The film took me back to my place of birth and deposited me within the distinct atmosphere of my roots, and I loved that.

"But apart from that it was a superb film, even the wife loved it. And we all know how she is with her own brand of films," Amitabh, who was born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com.

"Peepli Live" is former journalist Anusha Rizvi's satirical satirical take on farmer suicides in India and how media and politicians tackle the issue.

The film, which released Friday and has little known actors, has received rave reviews.

"The enactment of those times, the actors selected and the way they performed, all came to us in a heady mix by the end of the day... We talked about the film of course, but more than that whether such films should be made in abundance, whether we need to educate the masses, to entertain them and drive them away from the realities of life, or to succumb to the age old formula of escapism," wrote Amitabh.

The 67-year-old recommends that everyone watch the film.

"Aamir's wife Kiron speaks fluent Bengali, so Jaya and she had a ball - Aamir and me had the food!" Amitabh posted on Twitter.

Aamir and Amitabh have been bonding a lot lately. They also met over a dinner while the two actors were in London in June, following which the latter convinced Aamir to join Twitter.
